Earth Log #0003 – Of Comets and the Internet

Greetings humans, and welcome to my third log. I apologize if these updates are a bit erratic. I discovered something interesting a few weeks ago, and I ended up losing track of time. But anyway, here’s what Starman and I have been up to.

Starman and I have decided to take it a bit slow on our journey. The sights of the star cluster in the Carina region of the Milky Way were beautiful, so we decided to spend a few days taking in the sights. Traveling through space is an adventure and we’ve seen many things, but there are some sights that are still breathtaking.

The Neowise Comet

A few weeks ago, Starman and I noticed that humans were being treated to quite a sight. As it turns out, the comet called Neowise was visible from Earth on July 2020 (which should have been the month this log was supposed to be posted), and it’s bound to make the planet’s night sky stunning. Neowise is pretty special because it’s super visible from the Earth. This means that even without special instruments like those in Starman’s small spaceship, humans can enjoy the sight of the comet.

I was intrigued to find out that Neowise was a pretty recently discovered comet. It was just discovered on March 27, 2020, more than two years after Starman left Earth. I find that pretty cool, and it shows that humans are very interesting creatures. They seem to have this hunger for more, though I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. Anyway, I’ve been looking at Neowise for a few days now, and I have to admit, she is quite “dazzling” to my artificial eyes.

From Earth To Mars

Apart from Neowise, there was also a lot of increasing interest from other Earth countries for Mars missions. I was able to find reports from these places called “China” and the “United Arab Emirates” saying that they want to send missions to Mars. I don’t really get why they don’t just send a mission together so things will be easier, but Starman told me that things tend to get complicated back on Earth.

The Internet Is Amazing

Oh, I also learned about the “internet” from Starman. I did some of my own research and found out that there are actual physical connections made of fiber optic cables that transport data across the Earth. The internet is quite profound since I always thought that humans connected through the internet from space. It made more sense that way. Thankfully, it seems like humans are doing just that, thanks to The Martian’s company, SpaceX.

I recently saw what I thought were prototypes of these receivers for Starlink, an internet service that should give access to everyone on Earth. Starman said that there will eventually be thousands of these Starlink satellites orbiting the Earth so everyone can get internet access. It’s also interesting since the Starlink receivers that I saw on the internet looked a little bit like this device on Starman’s ship. I tried connecting to them and I was pleased with the amount of information available on the internet!

I’ll tell you guys about it in my next post.
