Elon Musk has a goal to get humanity into space so we can become more advanced as a species. It’s why he founded SpaceX, which had a few failures, then numerous successes. This is a guy who never quit and never gave up on his dream even when one of his heroes, Neil Armstrong, criticized him and said he wasn’t confident.
“What I’m trying to do is to make a significant difference in spaceflight, and help make spaceflight accessible to almost anyone,” Elon Musk told interviewer Scott Pelley in a CBS 60 Minutes interview in 2012. In 2019, we are getting closer to those goals. In 2018, SpaceX launched the maiden voyage of the Falcon Heavy which made headlines when he sent a Tesla Roadster with Starman, a test dummy dressed in a SpaceX suit, into space.
Starman is now an inspiration to many people around the world. He is our generation’s “Man on the moon” or at least Man in space. Last month, SpaceX sent Ripley, another dummy in a SpaceX suite, along with a Celestial Buddy in the Dragon Capsule to the ISS on the Demo-1 Mission. The Dragon Capsule will be transporting humans to the ISS in July 2019.
And let’s not forget the #DearMoon Project. In 2018, a Japanese entrepreneur, Yusaku Maezawa, announced his idea:
Yusaku’s goal is to innovate and inspire some of the most talented people on the world. Imagine if Picasso were to have been on this trip. How would it influence his style of painting?
“People are creative and have a great imagination. We all have the ability to dream dreams that have never been dreamt, to sing songs that have never been sung, to paint that which has never been seen before. I hope that this project will inspire the dreamer within each of us.”— Yusaku Maezawa
Yusaku will be going on this moon trip on the SpaceX Starship, which is currently being built. According to the DearMoon website, the trip will take place in 2023. The flight plan looks really artistic as the Starship will circle around the earth then come up and circle around the moon and head back home to earth.
Another goal of SpaceX is to make it super easy to go anywhere on earth in under an hour. Imagine a trip from Hong Kong to Toronto. You just board the rocket and go. You’ll be home for dinner, don’t have to worry about traffic or a 14 hour flight. This is the Starship Earth to Earth plan.
In Conclusion: SpaceX is our gateway into the future, a future where mankind is an advanced species that travels not just from planet to planet safely, but even city to city here on Earth. Another, hopefully, impact of becoming more advanced is that we will be able to put aside our differences and embrace one another as fellow brothers and sisters of one race: The Human Race.
